Gujarat's only hill station, set in the Sahyadri range with a cool climate that's a genuine relief from Surat's heat. The centerpiece lake offers boating, with a ropeway, viewpoints and dense forest trails around it.

A former Portuguese colony (like Goa, but far less crowded), Daman mixes beaches, colonial-era forts and churches with a laid-back coastal pace. Jampore and Devka beaches are the main draws, alongside fresh seafood.

A small island union territory with a well-preserved Portuguese fort, whitewashed churches and quiet beaches — a slower, more relaxed alternative to Goa within reach of Surat.

A heritage city built around the Laxmi Vilas Palace — four times the size of Buckingham Palace and still home to the former royal family. Add in museums and a walkable old city, and it's an easy half-day trip by train.

Gujarat's largest city and a UNESCO World Heritage city, with Sabarmati Ashram (Gandhi's former home), a dense old-city stepwell and mosque heritage, and one of India's best food scenes. Worth a full weekend rather than a rushed day trip.

A historic Parsi stronghold and the closest of these day trips — an easy half-day out to see Parsi-era architecture, fire temples and a quieter pace than Surat.
